A Team is a group of people with a high degree of interdependence focussed on the achievement of some goal or task. The group agrees on the goal and the process for achievement. Each
team has a common purpose, mission, and goal. The members are interdependent and they agree to work effectively to reach their goal.
The most challenging teams are
the cross functional, ad hoc teams. The challenge increases
when the purpose is unclear. Although the payoff is potentially
great, the difficulty of forging an effective team is complicated
by different styles that the people from the various disciplines
bring to the table. Also the temporary nature of the relationship
often decreases the motivation to work hard on building an
effective team.
Team building is data-based
intervention, which assesses the strengths and improvement
opportunities of a working team and then prepares and implements
plans to increase the effectiveness of the team.
